I've been tagged....

thanks Monika ;)

7 Random things about me.....

Okay, here I go.....

1. I am mad (not much of a surprise there I here you all say ;))

2. I want to retire so I can spend more time scrapping, taking photos and visiting my DS1 &DIL
in Canada.

3. I met my DH when I was 16 and he was 17 (sounds like a song) and we have been together since - 34 years this year - married 30.

4. I like cheese - so much so that I could never give it up and hope that when I go for an allergy test soon it is not one of the results - I would be mortified.

5. I don't really drink - probably about 3 glasses a year.... DH always tells everyone that we share the driving - he drives there and i drive back ;)

6. My best friend - gilly_dragon is madder than me :)

7. I love life - you only have one so I am gonna make the most of it :)

Think that's seven. Okay off to see who I can tag.The rules are simple. Find 7 people to tag. You must redirect them to your blog so that they can read the rules via a comment telling them that they have been tagged. Now is this just a spur to get people to read your blog? YUP, but is it fun: YEAH :) So don't be shy.

Well I have been very busy of the last couple of weeks getting ready for our scrappersunlimited retreat at the Brecon Beacons - one of the most beautiful places on this earth I would say :)

Anyway we decided to go down a day early via Chirk Castle, nr Wrexham and Llandrindod Wells where we stayed in a hotel overnight - the hotel looked to me as if it had not been decorated since the early victorian times (you know, when folk used to go to take the 'waters'). We decided not to eat our dinner at the hotel and went out walking to look for a restaurant - well LW had one chinese and one indian restaurant that we could find and that was it so off we trundled back to the car and drove about 20 minutes up the road and had our dinner at a little chef, which just happened to be the same one as we went in last time we were down that way 12 months ago :) we decided to have an early night as we knew the weekend was going to be mammothly busy so we were in bed well by 10pm and then awake again at 5am...... oh well so much for an early night.

the next couple of photos are from Chirk Castle and its grounds :-

and these two were in the grounds :)

front view and back view (take note of what he has in his hands)
We left LW at about 8.30am and arrived at our hotel The Manor, near Crickhowell at about 9.30am - a wee bit earlier than anticipated so we went for a stroll round the gardens with our cameras.

I think is enough for today - will upload some pictures of the layouts that we did at the retreat and some of the lovely gorgeous people that we met :) tomorrow or soon after :)

Early Morning

Well on Good Friday I thought it was such a beautiful morning that I would go out early and take some photos - I chose the local park and as it was only 8am there would not be any children around to spoil the tranquility of the park :) So off I trundled with my camera/lenses and my coat. I decided to go to the place where I knew there were 'a host of golden daffodils' so parked the car and took the camera over. What I hadn't reckoned on was the soaking wet grass and I really needed to get down low to take the pics I wanted. I had to rack my brains (which at 8am is not easy I can tell you) to think what I could use - my coat is pale grey so that was out, then I hit on the idea - I have a convertible car and when the roof is down there is a cover for it so you don't see all the metal bits whilst it is folded - so off I trundled back to the car and got out this cover. This worked brilliantly I have to say - mind you it is now covered in grass bits in the boot of the car but never mind will sort that out another day. It was beautiful and quiet on the park - must admit though whilst taking pics on my knees I did get a few looks from drivers as they went past - must have been a strange sight really seeing a batty woman with camera on her knees in the middle of a load of daffodils at 8am..... anyway here are some of the pics :)

I also took a picture of Whitby Hall, which used to be a beautiful building used by the Council for meetings for local government etc but unfortunately it has now been taken over by an Action Theatre Group and they must had got a job lot of red paint as they have painted everything around it in red - all the fencing, posts etc are bright red, which does not do the building any justice whatsoever.Whilst taking pictures of the hyacinths (on my knees again) a gentleman came out from the bowling green area where his little hut is to see if I was okay - he thought that I was ill (or possibly drunk ) I assured him that I was fine and only taking photos - obviously it is not a normal sight at this park for people to be out so early with cameras, which is really a shame.

Also there are quite a few squirrels in the park - but would they keeps still for their photo - would they heck - I managed to get just one decent picture all the rest were blurred :)
There are quite a few different photos on my http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v231/merrick10uk/ online album if anyone fancies a peek - hopefully over time my photography will get better as I am in the process of learning more about composition, lighting, whitebalance etc :)

well better go and see what the day has in store for me before its over :)

04 April 2007

Hi all, sorry haven't blogged since my rant but been very busy in work - boss seems to have calmed down now and the day before I went away to Nidd Hall I printed out the accounts balance for him and he was pleasantly surprised - he even went round the office and thanked everyone for their hard work in helping to bring it into line so hopefully he will quieten down a bit now - have to say he was in a jovial mood today - he even gave everyone an easter egg...... he thought it would be funny to give one of the small eggs made by lindt - you know the ones about the same size as a cadburys parrot egg only wrapped in red foil - made everyone laugh though :)

Nidd Hall weekend was gorgeous weather was gorgeous except there was an icy blast to it being as its on the other side of the pennines to us.... but nevertheless it was a beautiful place. The Hall is large and has many corridors, poor Pete kept losing his bearings, which is unusual for him, its usually me that happens to :) this is Nidd Hall

This picture was actually taken in October last year as I didnt manage to get a pic of the hotel this time :( It is owned by WarnerBreaks and they only do holidays for adults - which means no kids screaming and running about - it was fabulous. Don't get me wrong, I love kids, but couldn't eat a whole one ;).... They had a themed weekend, which was 80's music - on the Friday night it was a band that did lots of different take offs from the 80's and on the saturday night it was a madonna tribute now she was good - she even looked like her - to the gap in the teeth as well.... Sunday night was a Wham tribute - not quite as good but the music was good to dance to. On Saturday we went into Harrogate and Betty's tea rooms for lunch and just walked around - it was quite icy cold - ~DH wanted to find a pub and did - at Yates' - not the best of places to sit in I can say - was a bit grimy for me so we didn't stay too long. On Sunday we went to Fountains Abbey - this was a spectacular place - the Abbey even though now a ruins was brilliant and huge - it must have been a fabulous place in all its glory.

The second photo was taken just as we were leaving - just so we got a view of this side - there were lots of people there as the day was gorgeous - it was quite warm in the sun but not warm enough to take off your coat :)
Imagine the stained glass windows in this building - how beautiful and impressive must they have been :)

On the Monday on the way home we went to Ripley Castle and saw some Deer - not sure what sort but DH says they could have been Fallow Deer - they were a bit spooked at first - probably cos I had a light grey jacket on and they could see me for miles but I managed to get a couple of pics of them :) The pics arent brilliant but that's because the camera was handheld (thought if I try to set up the tripod I would spook them too much) even so they are gorgeous creatures.

This weekend is Easter and Gill has gone away with her DH to somewhere near Worcester and then on Wednesday 11th April we both head to the Brecon Beacons for our ScrappersUnlimited retreat and we are so looking forward to it - we are counting the days, hours, minutes and seconds. We have made boxes with a planner and some nice luxury goodies in to swap with a buddy when we get there and we have made badges so people will know who we are - mind you if they don't know Gill and I by now they soon will and believe you me, they won't forget us..... :)
Well will love you and leave you for now and will try and post before we go. Oh and Gertie and the Twins will be coming with us so watch out for details of their Journey to Brecon Beacons :)
